The Summer Reading Program blazed ahead last Monday with a fiery-fun visit from another group of Hometown Heroes — the firefighters! Avon’s own Reece Powers joined us to read a thrilling fire-themed book and talk with the kids about the brave work firefighters do to keep our community safe.

More than 60 racers from across the country gathered at Randall Creek State Park to compete in the second annual Fort to Field 50 Paddle Battle. Paddlers started at the Fort Randall Dam and finished in Springfield. Winners were as follows; Men’s Solo Category: Michael Cerney and Matthew Story.

12U BOYS PLACE 3RD AT VFW TOURNAMENT

Wagner’s 12u boys baseball team traveled to Groton, July 11-13 for the 12u Bravo Division of the VFW State Baseball Tournament. The boys went 2-2 in Pool Play, beating Hamlin/Lake Norden (9-2), and Salem (32-0). The boys lost two tight games versus Groton (4-6) and Parkston 2 (8-10).
