The Wagner Red Raiders gave their fans plenty to cheer about on Friday night, closing out Homecoming Week with a thrilling 49-34 win over Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan on their home field.

HOMECOMING COMMUNITY PEP RALLY

A community Homecoming pep rally was held Friday, September 19, at the Bich-Nedved stadium. Led by the WCS band, elementary students paraded around the track with signs of 'Go Big Red' and support for the school teams, who followed.

AVON SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD MEMBER HONORED FOR YEARS OF SERVICE

Avon School District Board Member Jeff Tolsma was honored by Associated School Boards of South Dakota with the Distinguished Service Award, which honors school board members for reaching milestone years in their service ontheirlocalschoolboard.

HAENFLER SELECTED TEACHER OF THE YEAR

PIERRE, S.D. – Becky Haenfler, a middle school English Language Arts teacher at the Avon School District, has been named the 2026 South Dakota Teacher of the Year. Secretary of Education Joseph Graves made the announcement at a banquet held this evening in Fort Pierre.

Ms. Emma Reck teaches 5th grade and grew up in Sioux Falls. She attended Northern State University, where she earned her degree in Elementary Education. As a student she enjoyed Social Studies, and now as a teacher she loves guiding her students through both Language Arts and Social Studies.

Mrs. Smith - Preschool

Mrs. Smith, who teaches PreK, grew up in Yankton and carried her love of learning to South Dakota State University where she earned two bachelor’s degrees, one in Early Childhood Education and another in Animal Science.

Wayne Bennett: 1st Grade Wayne comes to school ready for the day! He listens carefully, focuses on his lessons, and works hard to complete all his assignments. He shows a positive attitude every day and sets a great example for his classmates by being responsible, respectful and eager to learn!
