SPECIAL SESSION OF THE CITY COUNCIL TO HEAR REPEAL OF ETJ

A special session will be held by the Wagner City Council to hear the request made by Gerrit Juffer for the repeal of the Wagner ETJ at 5:30 p.m. this coming Thursday, June 20th. Anyone interested in the Repeal of the ordinance should plan to attend this city council meeting.

LOCAL TEACHER RECEIVES NATIONAL RECOGNITION

Libby Renbarger, a local teacher from Wagner Community school, has been selected as an NEH Summer Scholar from a national applicant pool to attend one of 43 summer teacher workshops supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities.

WAGNER CANCER RUMMAGE SALE A GREAT COMMUNITY SUCCESS

This year’s annual Wagner Cancer Rummage sale was held on Wednesday, June 12th through Friday, June 14th. The Wagner Cancer Walk and Rummage organization’s President is Arlis Kafka and Vice President is Jeanene Horner. The cancer rummage has been a part of the Wagner community for the past 15 years.

CARDBOARD BOAT REGATTA FUNDRAISING EVENT HELD

The 605 Unity Jam hosted the cardboard boat regatta on Sunday, June 9th. A regatta is a sporting event consisting of a series of boat races. The regatta is an annual fundraiser for the Wagner Pool Fundraising.

FARMERS MARKET SEASON KICKS OFF

Wagner held its first Farmers Market this past Friday June 14th from 4:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. There were five vendors for the first Farmers Market. Wagner American Blue Meats was there with meat sticks, briskets, roasts, short ribs, soup bones and hamburger.

YST ADULT GED GRADUATES 11 STUDENTS

The Yankton Sioux Tribe Adult General Education Diploma (GED) held their graduation ceremony Friday, June 7th. The ceremony was held at Wagner Lake. The ceremony opened with Richie Sully giving the opening prayer.

10 Years Ago – 2014 Pickstown preserved its history and celebrated its future with their museum dedication. Speakers for the event included Tom Brokaw, Col. Joel Cross and Lt. Gov. Matt Michels. Matt and Megan Lindholm announced the birth of their daughter Eva Hazel.

FIREFIGHTER SPOTLIGHT - BRIAN JANSSEN

Volunteer firefighter, Brian Janssen, has been with the Avon Volunteer Fire Department for over 40 years. Brian comes from a firefighting family. His dad, Don, and his brothers, Doug and Keith were all firefighters in Avon.
