March 28th – 30th saw 1700 + youth wrestlers from across South Dakota descend upon The Monument in Rapid City for the SDWCA State Youth Tournament. Amongst those 1700 participants were 35 members of the Bon Homme Youth Wrestling club. After three days of strong competition, BHY wrestlers were able to secure 22 top-eight finishes. Amongst those twenty-two medal winners, two were crowned champions of their respective weight classes. Rowdey Pesek brought home the gold at the 6U 40-pound division and Harper Kracht took home the gold at 14U 120. Bon Homme Youth Wrestling’s thirty-five wrestlers ranked them top seven in the state for number of participants and ranked them first amongst Class B schools. BHYW wrestlers ranked in the top ten in several statistical categories such as wins, tech falls and points scored. These results are a testament to the work the kids put in at practices, competitions, and in the off season. One thing became very clear from this tournament: the top teams from this youth tournament have a direct correlation to the top teams in the high school ranks. BHYW would like to thank all the kids for their hard work throughout this year and we look forward to seeing you all back next year. We also want to thank the parents and volunteers for the time they put into the three tournaments we hosted/co-hosted. All three tournaments went very smoothly thanks in no small part to all your time and effort. Lastly, we need to thank the volunteer coaches and board members. The hundreds of hours these volunteers put in is what makes BHYW one of the top wrestling clubs in the state.
