The Wagner Area Foundation awarded community grants for 2014.

The children of Melvin and Janet Horner invited the community to come celebrate the couple’s 50th wedding anniversary.

A card shower was requested for the 80th birthday of Fred Kocer.

Becky Brunsing was honored as Finance Officer of the Year.

Members of the Wagner American Legion Greer Post #11 participated in the American Legion State Convention Parade in Pierre.

Fort Randall Casino hosted the 21st annual Indian Day Celebration Pow Wow.

A handicapped pier began construction on Wagner Lake.

20 Years Ago - 2004

Jeremy Armstrong accepted the CEO position at Wagner Community Memorial Hospital.

Brett and Kyla Goehring announced the birth of their son.

Jeremy D. Joy of Pierre earned a degree of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Des Moines University.

A party was held in honor of Theresa Slaba’s 90th birthday.

An open house was held in honor of Clara Kocer’s 100th birthday.

30 Years Ago – 1994

The Wagner Fire District received a new truck that was built to the district’s own specifications.

Richard and Ann Doty announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.

A card shower was held in honor of Leo and Hattie Flynn’s 40th wedding anniversary.

VFW Auxiliary President, Helen Koupal, received the Outstanding VFW Auxiliary President Award in her division. VFW Commander Felix Kafka received the honor of being named All-State Commander, one of ten in the entire state. The Post and Auxiliary received a second-place award for the state Loyalty Day contest and first place for their hospital program.

40 Years Ago – 1984

Roberta Rehwaldt will be the new Elementary Principal at the Wagner Community School this fall.

A final tally of close to 50 pints of blood was donated at the Wagner Hospital Auxiliary Blood Drive.

Jeanie Rados and Warren Steinbrveck announced their engagement.

Leona M. Mead has resigned as Clerk of Courts.

55 Years Ago – 1969

James W. Sellers has reported to the Alabama River Reservoir Office as Chief Ranger for the three-reservoir serviced by that office.

Dale Robertson, Mark Hawley, Debra and Leslie Bunnare completed a 130-mile stroll from Wagner to Sioux Falls on behalf of the hungry people in the world. In the beginning Walther League members from Wagner had pledges of $50. As they walked, they were joined by others and in the end approximately $1300 was presented to the district office.

Vince Kaberna has been named Irrigation Board Chairman.

65 Years Ago – 1969

Mary Corey was honored on her birthday.

Dr. and Mrs. R.W. Honke and Richard attended the Flying Physicians Convention in Anchorage, Alaska.

Larry Kozel was the winner of a bicycle at the annual Huck Finn Days.

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Brown and a son to Mr. and Mrs. Darold Hawley.

80 Years Ago – 1944

Mr. George Moller of Presho will be the new superintendent of the Wagner School.

An award of $10 is to be presented to the person presenting the most appropriate Labor Day slogan.

Staff Sgt. Anthony Skorpik was awarded the Air Medal and Oak Leaf Cluster for bravery in action while deployed in Germany.
