More than 60 racers from across the country gathered at Randall Creek State Park to compete in the second annual Fort to Field 50 Paddle Battle. Paddlers started at the Fort Randall Dam and finished in Springfield. Winners were as follows; Men’s Solo Category: Michael Cerney and Matthew Story. Men’s Tandem Category: Doug Emmerich and Mark Jacobi. Women’s Solo Category: Pia Montoya-Kuhl and Susie Needham.

Robert Kokesh completed his wrestling career as a Husker at the 2015 NCAA Wrestling Championships. Kokesh defeated Stanford’s Keaton Subjeck by a 14-5 major decision during his final home dual at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln. Over his impressive career, he became a Three-Time NCAA All-American, Four-Time NCAA Championships Qualifier, and a Two-Time Big Ten Champion.

All School Reunion was held at the Wagner Lake.

Randall Humphrey, a 1996 Wagner Community High School graduate, is serving his second tour of duty in Iraq.

1995

Construction around town included the replacement of water lines on Second Street from the American Legion to Commercial State Bank.

Martha Svatos, RN, was selected July Employee of the Month at the Wagner Good Samaritan Center.

Chet Eitemiller and Angela Ulmer exchanged vows. First Dakota National Bank opened its doors as a full-service banking facility building in Wagner.

45 YEARS AGO

1980

Friends and neighbors gathered to harvest 230 acres of small grain on the Earl Barkley farm. Harold Cavier did the maintenance on the equipment and Weisser Oil furnished the fuel.

Carol Petrik and Arlan Jerke announced their engagement. George Meyer received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology.

70 YEARS AGO

1955

A Yorkshire sow owned by August Nylander of Wagner placed 1st at the National Promotional Sale in Princeton, IL.

Madonna Fitzgerald, Carol Stone and Mrs. Wm Brosz were on a ten-day trip to New York, sponsored by WNAX.

Sadler Veterinarian Clinic installed an electronic telephone answering recording machine.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ward Hoffman. A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Dave Bucholz.

92 YEARS AGO

1933

The interest for all new farm mortgages made by the Federal Land Bank were a basic rate of 5%.

Flour mills of Platte, Colome, Gregory, and Plankinton were in demand. Marked increase in flour prices caused people to put in surplus supply.
