The Wagner Varsity Red Raiders struggled to find momentum Monday evening, falling 13-2 to a strong Scotland/Menno squad.
Scotland/Menno jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when Trinity Bietz grounded out to bring in the game's opening run. They extended their lead in the third, with back-to-back RBI hits from Ervin Schrock and Kylie Guthmiller, pushing the score to 3-0.
Wagner responded with a pair of runs but couldn’t keep pace as Scotland/Menno added six more runs in a decisive seventh inning. The rally included an error, an RBI double from Guthmiller, and a grand slam to left field by Nora Robb that sealed the outcome.
Despite the loss, Wagner pitcher Lydia Yost showcased her grit on the mound, striking out nine over seven innings while allowing 11 hits and six earned runs. Yost also led Wagner at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a pair of singles.
On the other side, Guthmiller dominated from the circle and at the plate, striking out 16 batters and walking only two. She also went 4 for 5, driving in a run. Robb added four RBIs on the day with her grand slam, while Bietz chipped in with two hits of her own.
The Red Raiders will look to bounce back as they travel to face Gayville-Volin on Thursday, April 24th.
