The Wagner Raiders girls softball team hit the field Saturday at the Avon Tournament, for a day packed with competitive action and mixed results. Facing three teams in a full-day tournament, Wagner showed grit and determination against strong opponents.
The day started with a tough 7-2 loss to Castlewood. Despite solid defense and a few key hits, the girls struggled to string together enough offense to keep pace with Castlewood.
In their second game, Wagner went head-to-head with Hanson in a tightly contested matchup. Pitching and defense dominated, but a single run from Hanson proved to be the difference, as Wagner fell 1-0 in a hard-fought game.
The girls bounced back in a big way in their final matchup of the day, exploding offensively in the first inning to defeat Elkton-Lake Benton 21-5. The team came out swinging, racking up hits and runs early to take command and secure the win.
Despite two early losses, the team’s strong finish showcased their resilience and ability to rally—something they’ll carry into their next outing.
