The Wagner Rotary Club began their June 11th meeting by reciting the Rotary Grace prayer. Song leader Gerrit Juffer suggested that we sing “My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean” which drew some mumblings, and he quickly changed the request to “Singing in the Rain.” Our singing of the first verse was so dismal that everyone just shook their heads and we reverted to the original request of “My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean”. We also sang the Happy Birthday song in honor of President Jordan Weber’s new little baby boy. Congratulations Jordan!

There were no guests present so the meeting moved on quickly with Rotarian Patty Frei updating the members on more information on the Rotary International Convention. She informed us of a food, actually a drink, that Calgary, Canada is famous for. In 1969 a hotel bar manager drew up a new celebratory cocktail. It was made from crushed clams and tomato juice, vodka, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, and celery salt. The Caesar Cocktail was born. This is Canada’s national cocktail. It is estimated that Canadians drink more than 350 million Caesars every year. So, any Rotarians going to the International Convention should be sure to try this cocktail out!

Rotarian Jamie Soukup pulled the King, not the Queen of Hearts, out of the remaining deck of cards and won himself a Lottery Ticket for consolation. Secretary/Treasurer Craig Krsnak announced that the Queen drawing is up to $414.00 That is really becoming a big amount! The attendance teams are starting to show more absences. Kathe Henke’s team of ladies has eleven misses and Jerry Henke’s team of men has fifteen misses.

There was no program for the day and members discussed prospective Rotary membership and upcoming community events. Members were lucky that there were three desserts brought in for members to enjoy!

We adjourned in our usual fashion by reciting The Four-Way Test of the things we think, say, or do: Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL AND BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
