The savory smell of ribs filled the air at McCormick Park Sunday, August 31st, as the Dante Fire Department hosted its annual Rib Cook-Off. The event drew a hungry crowd eager to sample some of the area’s best barbecue, all while supporting a good cause.

Grill teams from around the area fired up their smokers early in the day, and by afternoon, the park was buzzing with activity as families, friends, and barbecue enthusiasts gathered to enjoy the food and festivities including the Bean Bag Tournament and Car Show.

This year’s top honors went to Tabor Czech Your Smoke (Brad Carda), who claimed 1st Place with their mouthwatering ribs. 2nd Place was awarded to Tabor Fire (Jacob Carda), and Curt and Karen Soulek of Lake Andes took home 3rd Place.

Adding a bit of humor to the day, one local cooker, Chad Soulek, was caught sneaking a snack from his own rib rack!

The Rib Cook-Off continues to be a flavorful highlight of the season, bringing the community together in support of the Dante Fire Department while celebrating great food and good company.
