Wagner played Hanson Tuesday night in Wagner. This game was a battle of the two top teams in region 5. The score was close throughout the entire game, with Hanson leading 13-10 after the first period and 31-26 at half time. The Raiders cut into the lead numerous times but never got the game tied in the second half. Late in the fourth quarter, the score was 53-57 in favor of Hanson, and that was as close as Wagner would get. The Beavers pulled away late in the game and won by a final score of 63-57. Brady Cournoyer had a huge game with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Preston McFayden scored 16 points and had 6 rebounds, Ky Arpan scored 8 points and grabbed 4 rebounds, Carlos Galindo scored 6 points and had 3 assists, and Jesse Zephier scored 5 points and had 5 assists. Parker Petry was battling an illness, but managed to play through it and chipped in 1 point and 3 rebounds. The boys will be back in action Thursday night in Lake Andes.
Wagner JV Takes on Hanson
The Wagner JV team took on Hanson Tuesday night. The boys were short handed as they were missing three starters due to injury and illness. Some of the younger players took advantage of the opportunity to step up into more aggressive roles. Colton Zephier made 4 three-pointers and finished with 12 points, Jeremy Cheyenne scored 6 points, Avery Medicine Bear scored 4 points, and AJ Kotab scored 3. The boys lost the game with a final score of 42-25.
COURNOYER'S TRIPLE DOUBLE LIFTS WAGNER OVER ACDC
Brady Cournoyer broke a Wagner school record on Thursday night in Lake Andes. He blocked 10 shots, the previous individual record for a single game was 6 and the team record for a single game was 8. Brady also scored 15 points and had 12 rebounds. This was the first triple double Wagner has had in over 15 years. Carlos Galindo scored 14 points, had 5 assists and 4 steals, Preston McFayden scored 10 points, had 5 rebounds and 5 assists, Cruise Koupal added 7 points and 3 rebounds, Parker Petry scored 6 points and had 10 rebounds, Ky Arpan scored 2 points and had 4 rebounds. Wagner started the game on a 10-0 run, led 28-13 at half time and won the game by a final score of 54-29. Wagner is now 9-6 and will play Sanborn Central Woonsocket on Tuesday night at home.
Wagner JV vs ACDC
The Wagner JV took on ACDC Thursday night. The boys were missing some key players due to injury and illness which gave other players the opportunity to step up into some new roles. Wagner fell behind 24-13 after the first half but put a full court press on later int eh game and got to within 3 points of ACDC. The boys fell a bit short losing by a final score of 46-37. Coltn Zephier led the team with 11 points, Winston Little Moon had 10, Leon Fields scored 7, Avery Medicine Bear scored 5 and AJ Kotab added 4. The JV will be back in action on Tuesday night against Sanborn Central Woonsocket at home.
