POST 11 SENIOR LEGION TEAM VS. CHAMBERLAIN POST 3 TEAM

By

On Friday, June 6, Wagner’s Post 11 Senior Legion team played host to Chamberlain’s Post 3 team.

Wagner sent Joey Cournoyer to the hill for his first start of the season. He was very effective as he needed 49 to pitches to get through his four innings of work. He allowed no runs while giving up just one hit, striking out seven and walking no one.

Wagner’s bats also had some trouble through the first four innings. While we did put runners on base with a hit, a few walks, and a Chamberlain error, no runs were to come of it and it was a scoreless tie entering the 5th inning.

Brady Cournoyer would come on in relief of his brother and didn’t miss a beat as he retired the side in order. After this, Wagner’s offense came to life. Octavian Kocer and Frank Soukup would get things started as they both drew walks. After a fielder’s choice and another walk Malakai Segura stepped to the plate and drove a ball over the centerfielder’s head to plate two runs. Dominic Doom then lofted a fly ball to left field which allowed Carter Cournoyer to tag up and score from third base.

Chamberlain would score in the 6th after two were out and no one on. An error and a walk, followed by a pop fly single to right field scored a run and put runners at the corners with two out. Doom, who did a solid job behind the plate all game, ended the inning by firing a seed down to second base to nab the would be base stealer.

Wagner tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th as Landon Mudder led off with an infield hit and promptly stole second base and advanced to third on an errant pick-off attempt. Joey Cournoyer then hit a little pop up into no man’s land to score Mudder.

After a quiet 1-2-3 top of the 7th inning, Wagner would have its second win in as many games. Brady Cournoyer was the pitcher of record as he allowed the one unearned run on one hit and a walk while striking out four.

Joey Cournoyer was the only Post 11 guy with multiple hits as he collected two. He also scored a run and drove in a run. Carter Cournoyer, Segura, and Mudder were the only others to collect a hit. Segura had the two RBI while Doom had one. Soukup, Kocer, and Trasin Dilts collected two walks each while Mudder and Carter Cournoyer had one.
