Avon Pirates hosted Freeman High School Friday night where the boys struggled as they took the loss 26-36. The first quarter found Al'Shamon Gunter with the 23-yard pass for the touchdown, but the team allowed Freeman to score 2 touchdowns to end the quarter 6-14. The second quarter again had the Pirates allowing the opponent to add 2 touchdowns to Avon's lone 2-yard touchdown run by Aziah Meyer to end the half 12-28. The third quarter found Landon Mudder with the 52- yard touchdown run and Meyer completing the 2-point conversion but Freeman also added a touchdown to the scoreboard to end the quarter with Avon down 20-36. Gunter secured the 17-yard pass for the touchdown in the fourth, but as the final buzzer sounded, Avon took the loss 26-36. Meyer rushed for 126 yards and 1 touchdown for the night, and Mudder rushed for 125 yards and 1 touchdown. Gunter received for 56 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Dominic Doom received for 23 yards. On the defense, Gunter had 6 tackles and 5 assists, Meyer had 4 tackles and 3 assists, Grayson Ratzlaff had 4 tackles and 2 assists, Jaydon Driesen had 2 tackles and 2 assists, Mudder had 1 tackle and 3 assists, Trenton Soukup had 1 tackle and 5 assists, Doom had 1 tackle and Randall Powers had 1 assist and created 1 defensive fumble. Avon will start 1st Round Playoffs on Thursday hosting Jones County with action kicking off at 6 p.m. Come on out and support your Pirates!!!
