2015

Duel Rock an 80’s rock tribute band from Sioux Falls performed at Fish Days.

The Leet School, built in 1883 by Norwegian immigrants near Letcher, was painstakingly deconstructed board by board in 2007. Eight years later in 2015 its doors had reopened at the Norway Museum as a part of the permanent exhibit.

The track results from the 2015 State Track Meet were as follows: 100m Dash – Erica Kitchenmaster 2nd; Brooklyn Brouwer 14th. 200m Dash – Erica Kitchenmaster 6th; Brooklyn Brouwer 8th. Long Jump – Lydia Hansum 8th; Brooke Deurmier 11th; Payton Johanneson 21st. High Jump – Payton Johanneson 1st; Beulah BlackCloud 4th. 300m Hurdles – Anna MedicineHorn 17th. 4x100 relay – Brooke Deurmier, Erica Kitchenmaster, Brianna Deurmier, Brooklyn Brouwer 7th with a time of 52.43, breaking the school record set in 1980. Representing the boys, Leo Hopkins placed 9th in the Triple Jump.

2005

Cindy Megenhauser was elected Mayor of the City of Lake Andes following the City Election last Tuesday, June 7th.

Soldiers from the 153rd EN BN, company A, were honored at Freedom Salute at the Wagner Community School.

Orval Van Deest presented at the Geddes Community Center. Van Deest is an expert on several characters from Great Plains history and talked about Cuthbert “Old Paps” Ducharme.

30 YEARS AGO

Russell A. Gall, Nancy Gall and Dennis Nielson were running for a position on the Andes Central Board of Education.

40 YEARS AGO

1985

Ed and Ann Carda celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Maylene Adam and Dale Kisch were united in marriage.

Frank and Marge Krammer celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary.

The Lake Andes VFW teeners opened their league season winning the first game against Geddes.

45 YEARS AGO

1980

Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Bechen are the proud parents of a baby boy, Ron Francis.

50 YEARS AGO

1975

Gordon and Esther Hook purchased the Sand’s Motel.

60 YEARS AGO

1965

Miss Diane Johnson was crowned 1965 Fish Days Queen.

In the Fish Days celebration Kay Rusch and Lana Palmer won 1st in the kids division of the parade: Tammy Soulek and Amy Gall tied for 1st in the bicycle division; Mike Johnson won the fishing contest with 215 fish, Richard Assam won 1st in the biggest fish with a 20 lb. northern.
