Native American Week was celebrated at Wagner Community School from Monday, October 13 through Friday, October 17, beginning with Native American Day on Monday. The week featured a variety of activities, including guest speakers, cultural presentations, and traditional dancers, giving students the opportunity to learn more about Native American heritage and traditions.
Native American Day, observed each year on the second Monday in October in South Dakota, honors the rich history, culture, and contributions of Native American people. South Dakota was the first state to officially replace Columbus Day with Native American Day in 1990, recognizing the deep influence of Indigenous communities on the state’s heritage and identity.
