To the Editor
I have read recent Letters to the Editor with some amusement as a handful of healthcare providers have tried to make an argument against Lee Qualm for Senator from District 21. Their argument is based on one failed bill, HB 1235. Yes, it failed in committee and is nonexistent. It continues to be debated in an attempt to create a false narrative contending that your life will be in peril if Lee Qualm is voted to be the Senator for District 21. Hogwash!!!
I don’t intend to debate that subject but do encourage you to visit with Lee if you have questions or concern regarding the same.
But I do want to tell you about Lee Qualm and why District 21 is blessed to have him representing us at state legislature. If you have met him, you already know that he is a kind and humble man. He is not boastful. He is not arrogant. He does not lie. He is a devout Christian. Lee is a hard-working farmer and family man and gives his heart and soul to the commitment of representing District 21. He would never intentionally cause harm to anybody.
Lee has worked diligently for the good of his constituents and the state. Working with Governors and party leaders, his accomplishments include but not limited to: House Majority Leader 4 years; enhanced the practices of Physical Therapists, CRNAs, Nurse Practitioners, and Family Physicians; supported the practice of Certified Midwives; Prime Sponsor of Commemoration Honoring Dr. Jerome Bentz as the Family Doctor of the Year 2015; free tech college education for veterans; financial help to small schools by changing capital outlay levels; home school opportunities; free speech on campuses; sponsor Animal Disease and Research Diagnostic Lab and Precision Ag at SDSU. Let’s not forget the hemp bill and the years spent by Lee to get it passed.
The District 21 Legislator also was named Legislature of the Year by the South Dakota Soy Bean Association and South Dakota Corngrowers Association. He was chosen Leader of the Year by South Dakota Farmers Union.
Lee’s accomplishments and commitments are influenced by his values: pro-life, 2nd amendment, free enterprise, limited government, sanctity of life and his deep faith in God.
With all the turmoil in our country and state, now is not the time to start over with a freshman legislator. I encourage you to vote for Lee Qualm for Senate District 21.
