LADY RED RAIDERS PICK UP WIN IN SEASON OPENER

The Wagner volleyball team hosted the Vermillion Tanagers to kick off their 2024 season. The young, competitive Red Raiders came out eager to play and picked up their first win of the season. Scores of the varsity match were 25-13, 25-17, 23-25, and 25-22.

Outside hitter Ravyn Medricky led all hitters with 14 kills. Braxton Nedved tallied 12 and Hannah Holzbauer added 9. Nedved dished out 32 assists in the win. Behind the service line Brianna Fuchs racked up 16 points/5 aces and Medricky had 12 points/3 aces. In the back court libero Libby Kotab scrambled for 19 digs, Nedved picked up 13 while Holzbauer and Medricky each had 10 apiece. Medricky and Fuchs each earned 1 block on the night.

The JV team earned their first win with scores of 25-17 and 25-14. Leading the attack were Adara Hopkins and Ashtyn Bruguier each earning 2 kills. Kylin Insko had 4 assists and Mila Hopkins added two in the win. Mateya Bruguier led all servers earning 10 points/5 aces, M. Hopkins tallied 7 points/3 aces, and A. Hopkins had 5 points/4 aces. Libero Hayden Knudsen led the defense with 5 digs while A. Hopkins and M. Bruguier each had 2.

The C team lost with scores of 13-25 and 19-25. Hitters Taelyn Knebel, Ty’Shay Medicine Bear, Olivia Podzimek and Tegan Langdeaux each earned 1 kill in the match. Setter Bella Kotab had 2 assists. Service leaders were Knebel and Kendra Van Duysen with 8 points/2 aces and 7 points/1 ace. Langdeux led the defense with 3 digs while Van Duysen and Knebel each had 2. Podzimek earned 1 solo block on the night.
