“Defensively, we clamped down on them and really forced them into some tough shots. Even on some of the shots they made it was like wow how did that go in. Offensively, we did a great job in transition running the floor without the basketball which led to some easy buckets on the offensive end. Something we need to continue to do is just sprint without the ball and give ourselves numbers in transition on the other end. We were very effective doing that tonight and will look to continue to build upon that next week. We struggled again from beyond the arc as we went 1-12. We got good looks but just didn’t convert. Lastly, congratulations to Lydia Yost who was chosen as the female athlete for National Women in Sports Day.”

The Lady Raiders hosted the Chamberlain Cubs last Friday night in girls basketball action. Wagner would jump out to an early 16-8 lead after the first quarter and then build upon that lead to 34-11 at the half. Wagner would continue to increase their lead and eventually win by a score of 57-24. The Raiders shot 25-56 for 45% while the Cubs would go 9-38 for 24%. Wagner dominated on the glass with a 34-22 advantage. We committed 12 turnovers compared to 25 from the Cubs. The Raiders would be paced by Ashlyn Koupal with 24 points, 8 boards, 5 assists, 4 steals, and 3 blocks. Lydia Yost would net 11 points, grab 7 boards, come away with 4 steals, and dish out 3 assists. Hayden Knudsen would finish with 8 points, 2 boards, and 2 assists. Genesis Patterson would add 6 points and 3 boards. Braxton Nedved would finish with 3 points, 4 boards, and a team-high 7 assists. Braelyn Scott and Brooklin Nielsen would each add 2 points. Scott would also have 2 boards. Mila Hopkins rounded out the scoring with one point. The JV team edged out a victory with a 20-14 win. Wagner started off with a 7-1 advantage after the first and then took a 12-7 lead into the half. They would force many turnovers early in the 3rd but wouldn’t come away with any points off of transition. The Cubs would cut the lead as close as 15-12 but the Raiders would hit some free throws down the stretch to claim the victory. Mateya Bruguier would lead the Raiders with 4 points. Braelyn Scott, Clarah Soukup, TyShay Medicine Bear, and Mila Hopkins would each add 3. Olivia Podzimek and Brooklin Nielsen each added 2 points. The C team came away with a convincing win with a 27-10 victory. Wagner jumped out to a 15-6 lead after the 1st and held a 23-8 advantage at half before holding off the Cubs to seal the win.
