LADY RAIDERS BASKETBALL ACTION

The Lady Raiders hosted the Sanborn Central Woonsocket Black Hawks last Tuesday night in girls basketball action. Both teams would trade buckets up to a 6-6 tie as the Black Hawks would close out the first quarter with a 14-9 lead. That would be the closest the Raiders would ever be the rest of the night, eventually falling 61-44. Wagner would shoot 15-41 for 37% while the Black Hawks would go 22-50 for 44%. Wagner would outrebound the Black Hawks 27-26. The Raiders would commit 16 turnovers compared to 7 from the Black Hawks. Both teams would shoot well from the charity stripe as the Raiders would convert 13-16 while the Black Hawks would be 12-15. Ashlyn Koupal led all scorers with 26 points, 7 boards, 6 blocks, and 2 assists. Hayden Knudsen would finish with 11 points and 5 boards. FROM THE COACH...

“Not a great night on either end of the court for us tonight. We came out very sluggish and allowed a lot of face cuts to the rim that led to high percentage shots for them. They had 4 players in double figures for the night so it was hard for us to just key on 1 or 2 players. Offensively we didn’t shoot well from the perimeter as we went 1-14. We got some good looks; they just didn’t fall tonight. We could just never get it under 8 in the 4th as we made a great push and then they got a couple of big shots that just took the wind out of our sails. The great thing is this isn’t the end and we need to regroup for the final three games of the season and then see where things shake up in Region play and take 1 game at a time. “
