The Lady Raiders hosted the Elk Point Jefferson Huskies last Tuesday night in girls basketball action. Wagner would take a 3-2 lead and then it would be all Elk Point the entire way. They would jump out to a 16-4 lead and hold a 17-9 advantage after the first. They would hold a 34-20 advantage at half and then out score the Raiders by 8 more the second half to claim the 39-60 victory. Wagner’s shooting struggles would continue as they were only 14-41 for 34% while EPJ was 24-49 for 49%. Wagner would get out rebounded 25-24. Wagner would commit 15 turnovers compared to only 10 by the Huskies. Ashlyn Koupal would lead the Raiders with 15 points, 10 boards, 5 assists, and 2 blocks. Braxton Nedved would finish with 10 points. Hayden Fischer would add 9 points, 3 boards, and 2 blocks. Lydia Yost would add 3 points, dish out 6 assists, grab 3 boards and 2 steals. Ravyn Medricky would round out the scoring with 2 points and 3 boards. “It was a struggle for us to get really anything going tonight on both ends of the floor. We let a shooter get hot early and then found ourselves in a hole. We made a decent run in the second to cut a once 18 point lead down to 8 and then missed 3 crucial possessions in a row where we got good looks. EPJ then just took it as us to the rim and played more physical than us on both ends. They are a good team but we didn’t play up to our potential. There is no time to sulk and feel sorry because we move on to the next opponent on the road that is undefeated and will bring their A game against us.”
