LADY RAIDERS BASKETBALL ACTION

WAGNER AVENGES LAST SEASON LOSSES IN A THRILLER

The Lady Raiders traveled to Plankinton to take on their Region 5 and SESD for the Mt. Vernon Plankinton Titans. Scoring would come at a premium in this game where there were no fouls. It was a physical battle. Wagner would hold a 9-6 edge after 1. Wagner would increase their lead to 8 mid way through the 2nd only to find luck to start finding its way banking in 2 threes. Wagner would hold a 25-23 advantage going into halftime. Wagner would hold a 4 point advantage after 3 and come away with a 48-45 victory. Wagner would shoot 39% from the floor hitting 17-44 field goals compared to 38% shooting form the Titans. Wagner would commit 13 turnovers compared to 17 from the Titans. Wagner would win the battle of the boards 28-17. Ashlyn Koupal led the Raiders with 14 points, 7 boards, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Lydia Yost would also reach double figures with 12 points, 3 boards, 4 assists, and 6 steals. Braxton Nedved would chip in 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists. Ravyn Medricky added 8 points and 7 boards. Hayden Knudsen would finish with 3 points, and 5 rebounds, while Genesis Patterson would tally 2 points. “It was a slugfest for us on offense. A very physical game where there is no blood no foul. We were very composed and did a great job the second half pressuring them as we sped the game up an they struggled handling the ball. Offensively we were very stagnate of just watching each other. We need to make sure we are moving with out the basketball because all eyes for them were on the ball. We could have gotten a lot of easy buckets on back doors and diagonals. A win is a win, and this is a big one for our region play.”

JV Girls Win Against Plankinton

The JV would come away with a hard fought victory 32-29. Katrina Zephier would lead all scorers with 14 points. Braelyn Scott would finish with 10, Mateya Bruguier 4, and Olivia Podzimek 3.

C Team Loses to the Titans

The C team would be defeated 27-34. Peytyn Weichman would lead all scorers with 11 points. Ty’Shay Medicine Bear would add 8 points. Teagan Langdeaux, Braelyn Jones, Mary Virginia Ashes, Camry Link and Clarah Soukup would all each score 2 points.

RAIDERS OPEN LMVC CONFERENCE ON THE ROAD

The Lady Raiders traveled to Armour to take on the TDA Knight Hawks last Thursday night in girls basketball action. Wagner would storm out from the tip off and take a 17-9 lead after a quarter and then a 35-16 lead into half. The Raiders would hold the Night Hawks scoreless in the 3rd and come away with a convincing victory 66-28. Wagner would be led by Ashlyn Koupal with 29 points, 8 boards, 8 assists, and 6 steals. Lydia Yost would finish with 13 points, 6 boards, 3 assists and 4 steals. Mateya Bruguier would chip in 7 points off the bench. Ravyn Medricky would add 6 points, 6 boards, and 2 assists. Genesis Patterson would tally 5 points, 3 boards, and 3 steals. Hayden Knudsen would finish with 4 points, 4 boards, and 3 assists. Braelyn Scott would add 2 points and Braxton Nedved 1 point while also dishing out 5 assists. Wagner would shoot 27-52 from the floor for 51% while holding TDA to 11-37 for 29%. Wagner would control the glass with a margin of 28 to 15. Wagner would commit 9 turnovers to 23 from the Knight Hawks. “Defensively, we really got things going in this game with some pressure in the half court. We did a great job of rebounding as we only allowed 3 offensive boards. Offensively we moved the ball well, had some great cuts to the basket and then finished at the rim. We were 22-35 from 2’s for 63%. We had lots of perimeter shots just toilet bowl around the rim. We will now play our 3rd game in 5 days this coming Saturday against Lennox that will be another challenge for us.”

JV Raiders Leave Armour with a Victory

The JV completed their 3rd sweep in a row with a 43-16 victory. Olivia Podzimek led all scorers with 13 points. Clarah Soukup finished with 7. Jazlyn Lhotak and Ty’Shay Medicine Bear each finished with 6 points. Peytyn Weichman and Mila Hopkins tallied 5 and 4 respectively. Camry Link finished the scoring with 2 points.
