The bottom of the lineup helped the Lady Pirates capture an 11-4 victory over Viborg/Hurley on Friday. Abby Gretschmann and Brielle Voigt combined for four of the team's eight hits in the victory.
Voigt collected three hits in three at bats in the win. She singled in the second inning, doubled in the sixth inning, and singled in the seventh inning. Viborg/Hurley opened the scoring in the first after Charley Nelson hit a solo home run to center field. In the top of the second inning, the Pirates went back into the lead after they scored on a wild pitch, Gretschmann hit a sacrifice fly, and Voigt singled to center field, each scoring one run.
A line out by Pria Sessler extended Avon's lead to 4-1 in the top of the third inning. Macy Voigt stepped in the circle first. The righty allowed five hits and four runs over seven innings, striking out nine, and walking four. Kaeli Wallinga paced the Pirates with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting 11 walks for the game. Voigt threw an immaculate inning in the fifth, striking out the side on nine pitches. The Pirates were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error.
