Monday, June 23 Avon Summer Reading Program continued this week with another amazing visit from our hometown heroes — the EMTs! Avon’s own EMT Liz Brandt read a fun, engaging book and gave the kids a hands-on tour of the ambulance! The young readers loved getting to see the inside of the vehicle and learning all about how EMTs help in emergencies. A huge thank you to Liz for her service, for sharing her time and stories with us, and for showing our curious crew what it’s like to be a real-life lifesaver. We were also thrilled to welcome Mayor, Fire Chief, AND EMT Kevin Tjeerdsma — the guy who wears many hats and has a big heart for people! He stopped by to take photos with some of our honorary EMT juniors — and we think he might’ve inspired a few future first responders! Thank you, Kevin, for your faithful service to our community in so many important ways. Over 50 kids joined for this heroic session. After storytime, they enjoyed a craft, cupcakes and patriotic red, white and blue fruit cups! Each young reader earned five more trading cards to add to their Hometown Hero collection! We’re so grateful for our local heroes who serve our community every day. Stay tuned as we celebrate more Hometown Heroes all summer long! Courtesy photos.
