Seven BHSA girls traveled to Presho to compete in the 34 team “Bride of the Monster” tournament in Presho on January 11. Senior Peyton Hellmann was named Outstanding Wrestler by the coaches. Placer-winners for BHSA were Peyton Hellman-145 first, Jasmine Ruelas-Hertz-114 second, and fifth-place went to Harper Kracht-120, Hadlee Kracht-126, and Ashley Tolsma-152. Sydney Johnson-100 won by fall over Amelia Three Fingers (Lakota Tech) in 1:37, lost by fall to seventh-rated Jewell Ganon (Canton) in :18, won by fall over Lizzy Fees (Faith) in 2:07, and lost by tech. fall to sixth-rated Timber Hanson (Stanley County) in 2:03. Jasmine Ruelas-Hertz-114 won by fall over Tierney Reindl (Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes) in :41, won by fall over Gracie Rutherfold (Stanley County) in :50, won an 8-5 decision over Lilly Toft (Brookings), and lost in the championship 6-1 to fifth-rated Vi Anderson (Sisseton) for second place. Harper Kracht-120 won by fall over Ramsie Hinricher (Brookings) in 2:29, won by fall over Gabrielle Nelson (St. Thomas More) in 3:34, lost by fall to number-one rated Finley Evjen (Canton) in :24, lost by fall to Addie Sander (Custer) in :23, and won by fall over Kamora Rutherford (Stanley County) in 2:48 for fifth place. Hadlee Kracht-126 won by fall over Hadley Schomp (Bennett County) in :59, lost by fall to fifth-rated Cateri Yellow Hawk (Sully Buttes) in 2:38, won by fall over Harlow McCauley (Lead-Deadwood) in 1:26, won by fall over Marin Rhode (Canton) in 1:58, lost an 8-5 decision to third-rated Hadley Bryant (Harrisburg), and won by medical forfeit over number-one rated Giada Schedrich (Lakota Tech) for fifth place. Bailey Kemnitz-132 won by fall over Emma Bockelman (Canton) in 2:44, lost by fall to fourth-rated Lexie Hillmer (Pierre) in 1:20, won by fall over Cecelia Percy (Lead-Deadwood) in 1:18, and lost an 8-3 decision to Teagan Vining (St. Thomas More). Peyton Hellmann-145 won by fall over Acacia Kahler (Pierre) in 1:04, won by fall over Kyla Lee (Lead-Deadwood) in 1:22, won by fall over Lakynn Qualseth (Canton) in 1:08, and in the championship match won by fall over second-rated Ireland Templeton (Pierre) in 3:50 to finish first. Ashley Tolsma-152 won by fall over Paige Jonas (Sully Buttes) in 1:03, lost by fall to fourth-rated Katie Snyder (Hot Springs) in 1:46, won by fall over Libby Krcil (Burke/Gregory) in 1:52, won by fall over Moraes May (Bennett County) in :25, lost by fall to second-rated Emerson Skuodas (Harrisburg) in 2:09, and won by fall over eighth-rated Ivy Hayes (Lead-Deadwood) in 2:32 for fifth place. Pierre T.F. Riggs won the tournament with 205 points, followed by Canton-184, Harrisburg-126, Custer-113.5, Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon fifth with 112.5 points, Lakota Tech-104, Lead-Deadwood-66, Viborg-Hurley/Irene-Wakonda-62, Bennett County-55, Stanley County-54 to list the top ten of the 34 teams. Comments: All of our girls won at least two matches in a tournament featuring five of the top six rated teams. Congratulations to Peyton for being named outstanding wrestler on her 18th birthday. It is a busy week with wrestling in a triangular along with the boys team vs. Pierce and Crofton/Bloomfield in Pierce on January 16, at the Harrisburg Tournament on the 17th, and Battle Creek Tournament on the 20th.
