GREER UNIT #11 AMERICAN LEGION MEETING MINUTES

American Legion Greer Post #11 held its monthly meeting on October 18th, 2025. We welcomed Josh Woods, as our newest Legion member. Commander Rados thanked the cooks for the delicious meal. Chaplain Don Kotab then gave the invocation which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion was recited by all members. Commander Rados then called the meeting to order.

Winner for the chance to draw the Queen of Hearts drawing was Jerry Seiner. Unfortunately, he failed to draw the Queen.

Minutes – Assistant Adjutant Mark Wiechmann read the minutes of our last meeting. Minutes were approved as read.

Treasurer’s Report – Treasurer Dan Gruenewald gave the treasurer’s report. The treasurer’s report was approved as presented.

Americanism – Americanism Officer Don Kotab stated he has again met with Lori Kokes. There is a possibility we may have four students Service Officer – Service Officer Merle Stone reported he sent several get well cards.

Baseball – No report Legion Riders - No report Bingo – We will start Bingo on October 26th. Members volunteered to help for

the first four weeks.

Veterans Service Officer – Veterans Service Officer Jerry Seiner has been filing claims for hearing loss and tinnitus for National Guard soldiers who only served in the Guard. He was encouraged by a representative from the Veterans Benefits Administration to file as the VA is looking differently at the NG as they deploy for missions overseas and in the US. He has filed several claims with the veterans receiving disability ratings. The veteran must have been exposed to loud noise during their time in service. The VA has determined that some MOS’s are more likely to caused hearing loss. Those would include mechanics, heavy equipment operators, Airmen working on the flight line and even Combat Engineers who worked with explosives on demo ranges. If you were exposed to noise while in service, stop and visit with your Veterans Service Officer.

Enrollment in the United Health Care Patriot Plan is now open. An AARP sponsored UHC plan is offering a Medicare Advantage Plan for veterans or spouse of a veteran. It includes up to $130.00 Part B Medicare give back, $65.00 per quarter for over the counter drugs, $1000.00 on dental visits, $200.00 every 2 years for eyeglasses and much more. That is $1820.00 in your pocket. Cost of this insurance is $0. To be eligible you must be enrolled in VA health care or Tricare or CHAMPVA. There is no prescription plan with this insurance. If you are interested, contact Dave Schelske at 605-660-2743. Stacy Mongar, the insurance representative, will be in Mitchell on November 22nd to enroll you in the plan.

Old Business – Lavern Rezac and John Crisman both thanked the honor Guard for their services.

A moment of silence was then held for Lavern Andersh and Dennis Cihak.

Amanda Bechen spoke with Clayton and Donie Gruenewald regarding the 990 forms and our tax free status.

New Business – A November 11th Veterans Day program will be held at the school. A flag retirement ceremony will also be planned.

A motion to nominate Greg Geiman for State Sgt. at Arms was made, seconded and subsequently passed. An invitation to the Lake Andes Post to join Post 11 was suggested and will be extended. Thank You’s from the Patty Buus and Jim Sellers families were read. Insurance coverage for baseball bleachers was questioned. Clayton said he would look into it. Jerry Seiner did an inventory of rifles and also ordered blank ammunition. The city park flag bases are to be replaced as part of the highway project.

Monthly drawing winner was Jerry Seiner who donated his winnings back to the Post. Chaplain Don Kotab gave the final prayer and we closed in due form.
