Greer Post #11 American Legion held its monthly meeting on December 19, 2019 at the Post Home. Commander Robert Kucera called the members to attention. Chaplain Donald Kotab gave the invocation, which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion was recited by all members.

Adjutant Rados read the minutes of the November meeting which were approved as read. Commander Kucera thanked the cooks for a delicious meal.

Commander presented Mackenzie Roberts with a $50 check, $25 Legion and $25 Auxiliary for being our Military Ball Queen Candidate. Mackenzie Roberts thanked Legion and Auxiliary for sponsoring her.

Committee reports were given as follows: Dan Gruenwald distributed a financial report for the month of November to members, which was approved as given. Americanism: Don Kotab reported he is paying scholarships to the colleges for those who were awarded the four $500 scholarships. No one entered the oratory contest.

Service Officer: Merle Stone gave sick call and relief. Bingo Commander Kucera reported we had two bad weeks, but over all a pretty good turn out. Jerry Seiner reported he sent a letter to eight families whose family Veterans flag was worn out. He had two responses, Diane Von Eschen replaced Ray Nedved’s and Dennis Fechner replaced Albert Fechner’s. Jerry reported we have several $50 casket flags on hand.

Vice Commander Dennis Clemens reported they lead the Parade of Lights parade with his pickup. The American flag and Legion and Auxiliary flags were in his pickup and very well lit up.

District #8 Commander Greg Geiman reported Spring District #8 meeting will be in Vermillion on April 4. Tony Krcil reported the Marty Church donated several walkers and other handicap items.

Two Thank You cards were read, one from the family of Kenneth Fuchs, who also donated $200 for doing the Military Services. Also a Thank You from Dennis Merkwan for the Leonard Thaler family, who also donated $150 for doing the Military Rights.

Dennis Clemens reported a Vietnam Reunion will be held in Watertown on March 27-29. Midwinter Conference is February 21-23 in Chamberlain at Cedar Shores Resort.

Tony Krcil reported the Ray Baugart funeral will be tomorrow in Armour. We are to be Pallbearers. Jerry Seiner reported there is a tour to Vietnam in November of 2020. Cost is $3400 per person. If you are a veteran, you can get free luggage claim at Allegiant Airlines.

Next Honor Flights are May 30, June 2, September 19 and October. Was reported you need a special ID to get into a Military Compensary. All Post Offices are now flying the POW MIA flag. Jerry will be back in April. Was reported Roger Frankenstein is taking treatments at the Mayo Clinic.

Adjutant Rados reported we will distribute American Legion sweepstakes tickets to sell after meeting. Chaplain Kotab gave the final prayer. Meeting was adjourned in due form.
