Kevin Tjeerdsma, manager of Farmers Pride Cooperative in Avon, reports that this year’s harvest is shaping up to be one for the records.
“So far, we’ve taken in over 850,000 bushels of soybeans, and we’re about 90 percent finished with soybean harvest,” Tjeerdsma said. “Yields are averaging around 60 bushels per acre, and with bins filling up fast, we currently have about 100,000 bushels piled on the ground.”
Corn harvest is also moving at a strong pace, with more than one million bushels already delivered. Corn yields are averaging 180 to 200 bushels per acre, and another 220,000 bushels are currently being stored on the ground as bins are near capacity.
Tjeerdsma noted that the cooperative has been busy keeping up with the steady flow of trucks as farmers take advantage of favorable weather conditions to wrap up what has been a record- setting harvest season in the Avon area.
Thank you, farmers! Your long hours, dedication, and hard work feed our communities and keep our towns thriving. We appreciate all you do, this harvest season, and every season!
