2015

Madison Dangler of Yankton was crowned the 2015 Czech Days Queen.

Lorney Van Gerpen, his son Caleb and Andrew Powers installed new lights in the Avon Gym.

Courtney stewart, Avon’s 2015 Girls State representative, spoke about her experiences at Girls State to the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 150 at Meadowview Manor.

35 YEARS AGO

1990

Hayward and Van Gerpen were elected to the School Board

TheWeePeesbeatTyndall18-13.DwightNamminga,Curt Greenfield and Brad Voigt each had four hits. They lost 2518 to Tabor. Hitters were Dennis Powers, Ben Brandt, and Kenny Podzimek.

The Pee Wees beat Tyndall 11-5. Hitters were Tom Podzimek, Chris Cameron, Scott Hento, Jordan Hubner, Doug Greenfield, and Brett Muller.

The Midgets won 10-9. Jeff Tolsma started on the mound and Travis Rauch on the relief had nine strike outs, no walks, hits, or runs. He also had a home run over the fence.

A bridal shower was held at the Albert Oorlog home for Gladys List from Denver.

The First Presbyterian Church held their annual picnic at the City Park.

Mrs. John Schroder hosted the Flower Club with twelve present.

The Avon Merchants were having a free picnic at the ballpark for the Fourth of July.

The Little Homemaker’s 4-H Club met at the home of Gladys Arneson.

The Community Theatre’s feature showing was Roy Rogers.

Dr. C.H. Holleman, Presbyterian missionary and brother of W.T. Holleman, was being held captive by Chinese communists.

S.W. Luke shipped out three carloads of iron in a week. AlvinRatzlaff was“slingingbrick”atthenewschoolhouse. Little Leatta Weidenbach celebrated her 6th birthday by having a party with her Kindergarten classmates as guests.

Karl Kurtz was able to be outside after being laid up for five weeks with pleurisy.
