10 YEARS AGO 2015 The new substation straight north of Avon is now being used by Northwestern Energy. It is powered by 43 wind turbines. The Johnson Strings of New Harford, Iowa will perform Sunday, June 21 at 7 p.m. Jill Grogen and Cynthia Haenfler had dinner together at Tolsma's Cove Friday night. Ben and Gail Slama attended the Oorlog Reunion on Sunday at the Meadow View Manor. 35 YEARS AGO 1990 The Flowers Club met at the home of Pearl Van Asperen. The LWML met at the Lutheran Church. Don Pelton had a home run and two singles, Roger Hubner had a triple and two singles, Eric Haenfler did the pitching. Shane Lee Nedved, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Nedved was baptized in the First Presbyterian Church. A baptismal dinner was held in the Tom Sternhagen home. Lorraine Jacobs and David Roth are engaged. Because of the big Saturday rush, Mr. Thesenga secured the services of Assistant Post Master Reaney for the rest of the day. Dave Ratzlaff was in town and bought a stacker, hay buck and Big Six McCormich mover. Dave loves McCormick machinery. The Fair Store has a big sale on corsets. They have Gossard Front Lace and Black Lace.
