BUSY WEEK ON THE BASEBALL DIAMOND

WAGNER 14U TEENERS VS. PARKSTON 19-4

On Monday, June 2, Wagner’s 14U Teener team playing under the sponsorship of VFW Post 7319 started their season in Parkston with a 19-4 loss.

Landon Ronfeldt was the starting pitcher for Wagner and after retiring the first batter, he would go on to walk or hit the next six men he faced, all of whom would come around to score. He was then relieved by Tyler Ronfeldt. Tyler pitched one inning and gave up eight runs on five hits while walking five. Cooper Slaba was next on the mound. He pitched 1.2 inning and gave up five runs, three of which were earned, on five hits while walking one, hitting one, and striking one batter out.

At the plate for Wagner, Colton Zephier had two hits while scoring a run and collecting one RBI. Mason Milk had a double along with an RBI and run scored. Ethan Gabel, Connor Gabel, and Jacob Kotab had one hit apiece with Kotab scoring one time. Cooper Kuhlman also scored once after drawing a walk.

On Thursday, June 5, these same boys hosted Winner for two 5-inning games. Zephier took to the mound in this game and would last four innings. He gave up eight runs, six earned, on eight hits while walking two, hitting one, and striking out four. Austin DeVries came on in the final inning and gave up six runs, four earned, on two hits and one walk. Jacob Kotab then came in and retired the only man he faced.

At the plate, Wagner only had one hit and that by Connor Gabel. Ethan Gabel scored Wagner’s lone run.

In the second game, we would play better but still find ourselves on the wrong end of a 9-7 score. Connor Gabel was the starter in this game and would take the loss as he would give up seven runs on six hits while walking two and striking out four. Cooper Kuhlman pitched a scoreless inning of relief, striking out one batter. Landon Ronfeldt pitched the final inning giving up two runs on two hits, two walks, and one strikeout.

Offensively, Wagner collected the seven runs on six hits and eight walks. Zephier, Milk, Connor Gabel, Jackson Woods, Devries, and Landon Ronfeldt all had one hit. Ethan Gabel scored two runs and Landon Ronfeldt, Milk, Kotab, Slaba, and DeVries each scored once.

WAGNER JUNIOR LEGION VS. PARKSTON 12-2

On Monday, June 2, Wagner’s Post 11 Junior Legion team traveled to Parkston for their first contest of the season.

Colton Zephier started on the mound and wouldn’t make it out of the first as he gave up seven runs, three earned, on five hits and three walks while striking out two. Dominic Doom would come on in relief and strike out the first batter he faced to get us out of the inning. Doom would go on to pitch the remainder of the game. He would allow five runs, two earned, on six hits while walking three and striking out four.

The Wagner bats were only able to scratch two runs across as we would fall to Parkston by a count of 12-2. Trey Segura, Beau Otte, Doom, Brannon Bruguier, and Ethan Gabel each had one hit. Otte would hit a bases loaded single to drive in Gabel and Doom for Wagner’s runs.

WAGNER SENIOR LEGION VS. WINNER POST 11 TEAM

On Monday, June 2, Wagner’s Post 11 Senior Legion squad opened their season by hosting Winner’s Post 169 team. Wagner played a well-rounded game as they came out on top by a score of 9-2.

Carter Cournoyer started on the mound for Wagner. He tossed three innings giving up just one unearned run on one hit and two walks while striking out four. Frank Soukup then came on to go the final four frames to earn the win. Frank gave up one earned run on three hits and one walk while striking out eight.

The two pitchers in this game also had the biggest bats. Soukup collected two hits and scored two runs while Cournoyer was a perfect 3 for 3 and also scored two runs.

Edward Ulrich had one hit, that being a bases loaded single to drive in two runs. Joey Cournoyer added a hit and two RBI and Brady Cournoyer collected a hit and a walk and scored twice. Trasin Dilts walked once, scored a run, and knocked one in. Jamian Medicine Horn walked twice and scored twice. Malakai Segura also drew two walks and drove in one run.
