sistant Coach It was a great weekend for both the Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon girls wrestling team (5th) and Bon Homme/Avon boys team (6th) at the state tournament in Rapid City on February 27, 28, and March 1. The girls had five medalists: Peyton Hellmann-145 (Champion), Jasmine Ruelas-Hertz-114 (4th), Hadlee Kracht-126 (4th), Ashley Tolsma-152 (5th), and Hope Kemnitz-185 (8th). BHSA also had two seventh graders qualify for state. Sydney Johnson-107 lost two matches to top seed and eventual champion Olivia Anderson (Watertown) by fall in :58, and lost to Danika Juhl (Garretson) in :53 ending her season at 17-23. Harper Kracht-120 lost by fall to top seed and eventual champion Finley Evjen (Canton) in 1:03, and lost a 7-3 decision to Wendi Silverthorn (Viborg-Hurley/ Irene-Wakonda) finishing her season at 34-24. Jasmine Ruelas Hertz-114 lost her first match to Nayeli Ortega (Canton) by fall in 5:06, but came back strong winning the next four matches over: Reva McGaugh (Huron) with a 14-8 decision, won by fall over Mataya Jacobs (RC Central) in 2:24, won by fall over Hadley Gjerde (Clark/Willow Lake) in 2:32, won a 7-5 decision over Lakota Rogers (Lakota Tech), and in the consolation match lost a 3-0 overtime sudden victory to Lilly Toft (Brookings) to finish in fourth place and a 39-15 record for the Sophomore. Hadlee Kracht-126 won by fall over Marin Rhode (Canton) in 2:33, lost by fall to second-seed Candice Matsuda (Spearfish) in 5:53, and came back to win her next three matches with a 6-3 decision over Olivia Kolbrek (Sioux Falls Washington), by fall over third-seed Jasmine Maas (Aberdeen Central) in 2:23, by fall over fourth-seed Langston Huffman (Rapid City Central) in 3:52, and in the consolation match lost by fall to Candice Matsuda (Spearfish) in 2:09 for fourth place and a 53-16 season record for the Sophomore. Peyton Hellmann-145 won her first three matches all by fall over: Mikayla Hight (Dell Rapids) in :58, over Lakynn Qualseth (Canton) in 1:11, and over Brooke Grajczyk (Webster Area) in 1:39. In the championship match, which was also the featured match by fan vote, decisioning Ireland Templeton (Pierre T.F. Riggs) 15-4. It was Peyton's fifth consecutive state title, and she was named the outstanding girl wrestler of the tournament. The senior finished her season at 45-0 and her career at 192-9. Ashley Tolsma-152 won by fall over Grace Reszler (Aberdeen Central) in 4:17, lost by fall to third-place finisher Katie Snyder (Hot Springs) in 1:19, won the next two matches by fall over Amelia Hendrixson (Sioux Falls Lincoln) in 2:16, and by fall over Eddy Adkins (Lead-Deadwood) in 2:45, lost by fall to second-seed Jaidynn Giedd (Kingsbury County) in 2:59, and won by tech fall over Kenzie King (Canton) in 3:00 for a fifth-place finish and a 38-16 season record for the Senior. Hope Kemnitz-185 won by fall over Blair Merkwan in 5:59, lost by fall to thirdplace finisher Jessica Hite (Custer) in 1:13, won by fall over Rayna Miller (Viborg-Hurley/Irene-Wakonda) in 4:40, lost by fall to Caydan Halls (Hot Springs) in 3:34, and lost by fall to Kori Wallner (Canton) in 2:51 finishing in eighth place and a 24-22 season record for the Junior. The top ten teams of the 54 teams in the tournament were: Pierre T.F. Riggs-137.5, Canton-107, Harrisburg-95, Watertown-94, Bon Homme/ Scotland/Avon-86.5, Spearfish-79, Aberdeen Central-67, Custer-66, Hot Springs-62.5, and Rapid City Stevens-61.
