GAYVILLE-VOLIN TOURNAMENT Avon Defeats Viborg/Hurley The Lady Pirates beat Viborg/Hurley 4-3 on Saturday. Viborg/Hurley opened the scoring in the first after Sierra Cordell singled, scoring one run. The Lady Pirates made the score 3-1 in the bottom of the first after Ashley Tolsma doubled, scoring two runs, and Brielle Voigt grounded out, scoring one run. Avon added one run in the third. Macy Voigt grounded out, making the score 4-1. Macy Voigt led things off in the circle for Avon. The right-handed pitcher surrendered four hits and three runs over five innings, striking out nine and walking four. Tolsma provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Avon with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-2 on the day. Rilyn Thury went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Avon in hits. The Lady Pirates were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Avon vs Mt. Vernon/ Plankinton Brielle Voigt drove in four runs on three hits to lead Avon Lady Pirates past Mt. Vernon/ Plankinton Varsity Titans 12-0 on Saturday. B. Voigt doubled in the first inning, scoring two runs, and singled in the fourth inning, scoring one. Avon jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after a dropped third strike scored one run, and Voigt doubled, scoring two runs. Avon added one run in the third after Abby Gretschmann doubled to center field. The Lady Pirates scored six runs on seven hits in the top of the fourth inning. Rilyn Thury tripled, scoring one run, Pria Sessler grounded out, scoring one run, Ashley Tolsma doubled, scoring one run, Voigt singled, scoring one run, and Jordyn Voigt doubled, scoring two runs. Macy Voigt started in the circle for Avon. Kaydence Metzger pitched one inning of zero-run ball in relief. The hurler allowed zero hits, striking out one and walking none. Avon amassed 14 hits in the game with Gretschmann, Thury, Voigt, and Voigt each collecting multiple hits. Rowan Brandt paced Avon Pirates with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting six walks for the game. Gretschmann and Thury each stole multiple bases. The Lady Pirates didn't commit a single error in the field. Avon Falls To Gayville-Volin Gayville-Volin defeated Avon 9-0 on Saturday, thanks in part to seven runs in the fourth inning. A single by Hailey Adams on a full count put Gayville-Volin on the board in the bottom of the second. Gayville-Volin then scored seven runs on five hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Macy Voigt started in the circle for Avon. The hurler gave up three hits and six runs over three and one-third innings, striking out three and walking seven. Rilyn Thury, Jordyn Voigt, Kaeli Wallinga, and Pria Sessler collected one hit each. CASTLEWOOD TRIANGULAR Pitching Impressive As Avon Lady Pirates Beat Castlewood Both teams were strong in the circle on Monday, but the Lady Pirates defeated Castlewood 1-0. Macy Voigt started the game for Avon and recorded 15 outs. The Lady Pirates were the first to get on the board in the third when Pria Sessler singled, scoring Rilyn Thury. Castlewood threatened in the bottom of the fifth, but a line drive double play turned by Thury and Rilyn followed by a fly ball to Abby Gretschmann ended the inning and the game. Macy Voigt started the game for the Pirates. The starter gave up five hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out six and walking two. Sessler went 3-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Avon Storms Back to Defeat Redfield The Avon Lady Pirates rallied to top Redfield 10-6 on Monday. The Pirates trailed by as many as five runs during the game. Redfield jumped out to an early 5-0 lead. However, Avon flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the third, scoring seven runs on five hits to take the lead, 10-5. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Macy Voigt that drove in three. Macy Voigt stepped in the circle first for Avon, allowing nine hits and six runs over five innings, striking out six and walking two. Macy Voigt drove the middle of the lineup, leading Avon with three runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Abby Gretschmann led the team with two hits in two at-bats. Ashley Tolsma had three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, amassing 10 walks for the game. The Pirates' record currently stands at 12-4.
